The U.S. Department of Housing announced Friday morning that single-family housing starts fell 12% from the August figure and 31% from the September 2007 figure, while privately-owned housing starts were down 6.3% since August. A report from MarketWatch noted that the 12% decline in single family starts has reached a level not seen since 1982.
